Library cards are free for Saskatchewan residents and an active library card gives you 24/7 access to our digital and online resources. At this time all transactions related to physical borrowing, such as holds, overdue fines, and due dates are on pause.
Get a Library Card
To sign up for a card, visit a branch of any Saskatchewan public library and ask a staff member at the circulation desk to assist you. Library cards are free for Saskatchewan residents.
Adults & Young Adults (ages 14+) must show identification establishing their current address and verifying identity.
Children (under 14 years of age) must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian who must show identification establishing his or her current address and verifying identity. The parent or legal guardian will need to sign the child’s library card. The signer assumes responsibility for any library charges incurred by the child.
Borrowers are responsible for all materials borrowed on their card and any charges, including fines and replacement costs, resulting from the late return, damage or loss of materials.
Get a Pin Number (Personal Identification Number)
Library staff will also register a four-digit PIN (Personal Identification Number) on your library account. A PIN is required to access your library account from any electronic device. A PIN is also required to access all e-library services, such as databases and ebooks.
Forgot your PIN? Try the last four digits of your phone number. If you still cannot gain access to your account, visit a branch of any Saskatchewan public library and speak to a staff member at the Circulation/Check-Out desk. You’ll need to show them your library card along with one other piece of ID and they will give you a new PIN.
Replace a Lost or Stolen Card
It is important to let us know immediately if your card has been lost or stolen. Call your local branch. Lost or Stolen cards will be replaced for a $3.00 charge.
Click on Login. Enter your library barcode (no spaces) and PIN. From your account, you can:
- View and renew items currently checked out
- Check the status of your holds
- Check if you have overdue fines
- View your reading history
- View your personal information (name, address, etc.)
- Change your Personal Identification Number (PIN) and e-mail
Update contact information
Your library card is like a credit card and it is very important that your contact information remain up-to-date. Let us know immediately if your address or phone number changes by contacting any branch library. Please note that your library card must be renewed every three years. At that time, staff may verify that contact information has not changed.
You can change your PIN and e-mail address yourself by logging in to your account. All other contact information must be changed by a library staff member for you.
Your library card may be used at any Saskatchewan public library location and is required for all library transactions. You are responsible for all material checked out on your library card, and will be required to pay for the cost of repairing or replacing material lost or damaged while on loan to you.
You may have up to 100 items checked out on your card at any time. High demand items, including DVDs and CDs, have limits on the number that may be borrowed at any one time.
You can return items that you borrow to any public library in Saskatchewan.
- Books, Books on CD, CDs – 21 days
- Items with a high number of holds - 14 days
- DVDs and Videos – 7 days
- Magazines – 7 days
Renew an Item
Items may be renewed by a staff member for you in person or over the phone. Items can also be renewed by yourself online. Most items can be renewed 2 times, except for magazines which can only be renewed once. If another patron has requested the same item you will not be able to renew it.
Phone-in renewals can also be done by calling TeleCirc at 1-855-980-SILS (7457).
Request an Item (Place a Hold)
You may have up to 100 holds on your card at a given time.
A branch librarian will be happy to help you place a hold. You can also search for and place holds online using the search bar above.
You will be notified when the item becomes available for pick-up at your branch of choice. The item on hold will remain available to pick up for 7 days before it must be sent on to the next patron.
Please note: You will not be able to place a hold on all items. Reference items, magazines, some literacy items, and other selected resources cannot be requested. If you are still having problems contact us by e-mail or telephone.
Request an Item Not in the Catalogue (Interlibrary Loan)
Fill out the Interlibrary Loan Web Form. You will be prompted to login if you are not already. Include as much information about the item as you can. You can also contact your local branch librarian who will be happy to request an Interlibrary Loan for you. You can also Suggest a Title for purchase.
It is the patron’s responsibility to keep track of the due dates of their borrowed materials and to return things on time.
- Adult materials – 30 cents per day to a max of 6.30
- Young Adult materials – 20 cents per day to a max of 4.20
- Juvenile materials (including DVDs) – no fines
- DVDs and videos – 1 dollar per day to a max of 7.00
A replacement charge is automatically added to your record for items that remain overdue for 30 days or more. The replacement charge represents the cost of the item plus a $7.00 billing fee. Replacement charges also apply to damaged items.
If you have charges of $10.00 or over on your account, you will be unable to borrow until you reduce the charges to less than $10.00.
Receive Notifications About Fines and Holds
Notifications can be received via three methods. Patrons may choose which method they prefer:
- Cellphone Text
- TeleCirc automated telephone system - You can also use TeleCirc to check on the status of your account by calling the toll free number in Saskatchewan at 1-855-980-SILS (7457). You will be prompted for your library card number.
- Note that Text and E-mail are the only methods through which courtesy notices of upcoming due dates may be sent.
- Courtesy notice (e-mail and text only) – 2 days before due date
- 1st notice – 3 days after the due date
- 2nd notice – 17 days after the due date
- Final Billing notice – 31 days after the due date
How do I find out about programs and events at my library?
All branch libraries have a facebook page which they will list upcoming events on. Links to each branch's facebook page can be found by going to "Locations and Hours" and selecting your local branch from the list.
