Relationship with Other Agencies
School Libraries
Both public libraries and school libraries work towards the goal of encouraging children to read. Palliser Regional Library commits itself to working with schools to promote reading through library programs, classroom visits to the library and librarians' visits to school.
In terms of the library materials provided, Palliser sees the primary role of the public library as providing fiction and popular non-fiction for juveniles and materials for individual independent study. The role of the school libraries is to provide textbooks and resource materials related to the curriculum. Palliser Regional Library does not purchase curriculum-related material specifically for school use. Some curriculum-supportive material which is of interest to the general public will be purchased to meet public demand and will be made available to the schools. Multiple copies for school use will not be purchased.
Adult Education Institutions
Palliser Regional Library will cooperate with regional colleges, technical institutes and universities to provide access to library materials which are held in the province. However, Palliser does not purchase materials specifically for adult education courses from its general budget.
Saskatchewan Provincial Library
The Provincial Library supplies specialized, technical materials and expensive reference or bibliographic tools, talking books for the visually handicapped, multilingual books, high interest / low vocabulary books, library science materials, Provincial and Federal Government documents, etc.
Palliser does not purchase materials collected by the Provincial Library unless heavy regional demand requires that the provincial collection be supplemented.
