Branch Collections
Branch libraries serving populations of 0 - 1,000
The collections in these branches are composed of:
- BLOCKS of books in adult fiction and non-fiction, juvenile fiction and non-fiction easy; cassettes; and videos.
- PERMANENT items of anticipated local long-term interest. This collection includes non-fiction, easy, and the occasional fiction as suggested by the branch librarian plus material selected by the regional headquarters to provide a basic information collection in every branch.
Branch libraries serving populations of 1,000 - 5,000
Collections in these branches are the same as above, however where local councils have provided adequate library space, the branch will receive a larger permanent collection than would be possible or practical in the smaller communities.
Regional Resource Centre Library - Moose Jaw Branch
The collection for the reference centre shall:
- Be a well-balanced circulating collection which can handle title and subject requests for the region and occasionally provide blocks of books.
- Have a reference collection based on standard bibliographies of recommended titles for medium sized public libraries.
- Be developed based upon the general demands and popular interests of library users of the region as a whole.
Headquarters
The headquarters collection consists of materials intended primarily for distribution to the branch libraries, the paperback deposits, the books-by-mail service and certain materials regularly required for interlibrary loan purposes.
It may also include special collections such as:
- holiday blocks, which are distributed to each branch, returned to headquarters after the appropriate holiday, updated, and stored until they are sent to another branch the next year.
- Literacy and large print materials which may be housed at the Moose Jaw Branch.
- A library science collection of resource material on topics such as programming, material selection, service development, fundraising, and story-telling.
